You are not alone.
"When you go through tragedy, you can either let that destroy you and you become bitter and never let it go, or you can let it make you stronger and let it make you grow. And that's what I did. My lyrics are coming from a place that I want people to relate to and feel that they're not alone."
Start of The Dream.
"End of the Dream is about this recurring theme of not being afraid and living while you're alive because it doesn't last forever. You have to make a constant effort to remind yourself of things that you believe in, you know.
I think that's something that comes out a lot in our music because it's something that I deeply feel. "
She was born to do this.
"Every time it eventually came to me in a way that was truly like: oh yeah, this is what I want. This is coming out of me whether I planned it that way or not. And I have to do this. I want to do this. I was born to do this. With age comes confidence and with success comes fans and support. I'm happier now doing what I do with my band than I ever have been before."
Amy about motivation.
“I feel motivated in a way that is out of my excitement and the freshness and the desire to make music, but it’s also coming up in a place of this fire that is just been lit by growing up and going, ‘I don’t wanna waste my life because I love what I do. Let’s do this now!’”
Grateful for fans.
"It's bigger than myself, I couldn't do it by myself. I love it so much, I'm so grateful for all of it. And our fans - we have millions of fans all around the world who have stuck with us and cared, and just supported us in such a beautiful way. There is a whole world, a whole community of stuff that is a product of all of that.
And I have not at every moment in my life loved it and wanted to rush back to it. There have been plenty of times where I wanted to run away and wondered if we were ever going to do anything again. But coming where we are now, where we have gotten to, and the whole full circle vibe of it all, I really want to make use of time right now. I don't want to waste a minute."
The Dark Queen on fire.
“This world can be an incredibly cruel place. Music is a refuge for me. I write out of a need for release, searching for a way out, working out my frustrations, which makes it a place to run to for other people who feel that way too. It is an escape without denying the reality of our pain. A place to vent and be heard and feel hope. Belief that we can get through it, together.”
The Fallen Anniversary.
"I love making music, and my personal quest as an artist is always about sharing more and more and more, and showing the whole picture of my heart and things that I’ve experienced, and drawing from real life. And there’s just so many colors to a human being, and to the things we experience. It would be impossible at any age to sum up your whole self in one song, or even in one album."
Music is an escape.
"Music is an escape without denying the reality of our pain. A place to vent and be heard and feel hope. Belief that we can get through it, together."
Amy accepts her fate.
"It started out very surreal and strange, and impostor syndrome is very real, but I feel like at this point, I’m where I’m meant to be. It’s amazing and I’m proud. I am ready to accept my fate as goth superstar Amy Lee of the fuckin’ dark-ass band Evanescence."
Amy wants to continue.
"There’s something indescribably beautiful about people coming together in the name of music. It’s such a simple and ancient thing. I feel like I will do this until my voice can’t anymore. And I didn’t always feel like that."
We are all connected.
"I think that we're all connected. There's always something that I can attach myself to... I feel like just the human experience, there is something deep in there. We can get to a place and understand each other if we try."
Music is a therapy.
"Music is therapy for me. It's my outlet for every negative thing I've ever been through. It lets me turn something bad into something beautiful."
The meaning of Disappear.
"Don't give into the fear – I have to tell myself that every day. Nobody is perfect. We are all imperfect, and it's precisely those imperfections that make us who we are, and we have to embrace them because there's so much beauty in those differences. Life is worth fighting for. You are worth fighting for."
About the impact of Fallen.
"It inspired an entire generation of young girls to know they had a place in heavy music. To show they didn't have to even compromise."
Grateful for Fallen.
"I'm so grateful for Fallen. I wouldn't change anything about it."
- Amy during the 20th Anniversary interview
Our flaws can be superpowers.
"To be your true self is truly freeing. Our flaws can be superpowers. That's what makes us different. That's what makes us unique."
We all have differences.
"We need to live in a society where there's okay to have differences. What is important is that we can function together with those differences."
Life is worth living.
"Evanescence’s music is a place where people go to feel like they can connect with something that’s hard to talk about -- with pain, with struggle.
I want that to be the message from us that there is hope and life is worth living."
Amy is Evanescence.
"I am Evanescence. I am the only original member. I have basically hired the band. Evanescence has become me. It is mine and it's exactly how I want it to be."
Understand your feelings.
"We all want to feel love. There used to be a spot inside of me that wanted to shout... And now there is a spot that wants to love and talk about sincere feelings."
